Elton Mayo was a psychologist and an associate professor at the Harvard Business School. Elton Mayo and his group conducted a series of studies between the years 1927 and 1932 at the Hawthorne plant of the western electric company. The experiments conducted by the group of Mayo and others can be summarized as follows. These experiments were conducted to determine the relationship between the intensity of illumination and the efficiency of workers measured by output. it was found that” variables other than physical conditions might be affecting output. Psychological and sociological factors might have an important bearing not only upon worker motivation and but upon output. Psychological and Sociological factors might have an important bearing not only upon worker motivation and attitude but upon output as well.
