Peripheral Circulatory Failure

Hi guys. The fundamental basis of peripheral circulatory failure (Shock) is a sudden decrease in the circulating blood volume. This is associated with a reduction in the venous return to the heart and therefore of the cardiac output, and hence with a generalized tissue anoxia.

As a result compensatory mechanisms are brought into play to try and maintain an adequate circulation to the more vital parts of the body. This conception is fundamental to an understanding of the great variety of clinical conditions in which shock may occur. Shock is usually divided for convenience into surgical, medical and Neutrogena shock although the underlying mechanism is similar in all three. More than one such factor may be involved in any particular case.
