Hi guys! High Pressure Sodium light bulbs are one of the most commonly used outdoor light sources. Most street lighting uses a high pressure sodium bulb which gives a characteristic 'yellowish' color. It is a very efficient light source which generally lasts for 24,000 hours. Most bulbs are labeled as an LU100 for 100 watt high pressure sodium; Philips uses a different system calling the same bulb a C100S54. HID lighting or High Intensity Discharge includes Metal Halide, Pulse Start Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, Low Pressure Sodium and Mercury Vapor light bulbs. HID are used in outdoor area lighting applications such as High Pressure Sodium street lighting or Metal Halide wallpack and floodlights.
