Hi guys! High Pressure Sodium light bulbs are one of the most commonly used outdoor light sources. Most street lighting uses a high pressure sodium bulb which gives a characteristic 'yellowish' color. It is a very efficient light source which generally lasts for 24,000 hours. Most bulbs are labeled as an LU100 for 100 watt high pressure sodium; Philips uses a different system calling the same bulb a C100S54. HID lighting or High Intensity Discharge includes Metal Halide, Pulse Start Metal Halide, High Pressure Sodium, Low Pressure Sodium and Mercury Vapor light bulbs.
