It’s important to have a manager right away, even if it’s not someone with lots of experience. Some call a manager a glorified baby-sitter. When artists signed to my label opted to wait for management, I informally assumed that position. They called with all their personal problems as well as all their business problems. I often did feel as though I was baby-setting. But being a real manager is a whole another animal.
