More power, prestige and audience

How much a college radio station can help you may depend on a number of factors besides what it plays. Some stations have more power, prestige and audience than others for a variety of reasons. There may be less competition from others for a variety of reasons. There may be less competition from local commercial stations in smaller cities. College radio stations can range from being very powerful, covering a reasonably large area of listeners to being heard only on campus. In New York City for example New York University’s radio station has a pretty wide range of people it reaches. It has a large following that goes way beyond its student population. Then are colleges whose radio station can be heard only inside the school itself. They may be played in the cafeteria and other places on campus so many do listen whether they like it or not.
