The diagnosis is usually easy but it must not be forgotten that acute bronchitis may by an early and prominent manifestation of some underlying disease, such as measles or whooping cough. When signs simulating those of acute bronchitis are confined to one part of the chest, pulmonary tuberculosis, bronchial carcinoma and bronchiectasis should be considered.
