Hello guys, the term referred pain is sometimes used to describe a pain which is felt in some site other than that in which it originates. This is not a satisfactory terms as in a sense, all pain can be considered as referred. Pain coming from the little toe, for example, is referred back to the little toe. Some process of a pain and this process may be called reference. This process of reference can only take place if there is some kind of map of the body in consciousness, or body image as it is called to which reference can be made. All of us have some kind of mental image of our bodies, which includes particularly the limbs and face, the gastrointestinal tract, however appears to occupy little place in the normal body image except as something vaguely deep to the abdominal wall. Thanks guys.
