As bronchial carcinoma is such a common primary cause of mediation tumor, bronchitis should be carried out in all cases. In some an exact diagnosis cannot be made without surgical exploration of the chest and removal of the tumor or a portion of it for histological examination.

Benign mediation Tumors these should be removed surgically as soon as they are discovered because (a) they tend to produce symptoms sooner or later and (b) some of them, health particularly cysts, may become infected while others, especially neural tumors, may undergo malignant change. The operative mortality is very small.
