Chronic post haemorrhagic anaemia is characterized by a hypochromic microcytic blood picture, e.g. hemoglobin 6 g. per 100 ml.,r.b.c. 3,500,000 MCH 17. The reticulocyte count rarely exceeds 5 per cent. the red blood cells show anisotropic and poikilocytosis. The bone marrow, as obtained by sternal biopsy, shows a normablastic reaction. The following clinical features: unexplained abdominal colic polyneuritis and mental disturbance.

Although the number of cells and hyaline casts passed in the urine in the course of the day by the healthy adult is considerable in practice microscopic examination of the centrifuged deposit reveals only an occasional cell or hyaline cast in each low power field.
