Another cause of iron deficiency is blood loss. In this case you lose the nutrient when you lose blood, and this accounts for the shortage. You may also become deficient if regardless of how much of the nutrient you ingest, some disease or disorder interferes with you body’s ability to absorb or utilize the nutrient.
