Anemia is a problem because it reduces the amount of oxygen delivered to all the cells in the body. When the cells don’t get enough oxygen, symptoms develop you tire easily, become weak and short of breath, and may even experience heart palpitations and fainting spells. Because these symptoms can develop slowly over a period of weeks or even years you may attribute them to emotional stress or getting older in fact, stress and age have little or nothing to do with it.
