If your anemia is the result of a dietary deficiency, your physician will use some from of supplementation to bring your blood and storage levels of the deficient nutrient (iron, foliate, or Vitamin B12) to normal levels. Then it’s up to you to make a commitment to following a more healthful diet.
If you are not yet anemic but are falling short on the necessary nutrients, your blood levels of these nutrients may be low and you risk depleting stores especially of iron and foliate. Making a conscious effort to improve nutrition can often prevent full blown anemia from developing.
