Paroxysmal (intermittent) nocturnal (at night) hemoglobin (hemoglobin in the urine) is a rare type of homiletic anemia that strikes adults aged thirty to fifty. For reasons not yet understood many of their red cell membranes become fragile and vulnerable to destruction. Episodes of red cell destruction occur during sleep. Health blood may be lost in the urine, which means the body also loses iron so people with PNH often suffer from iron-deficiency anemia, as well. In later stages, PNH may develop into leukemia.
