Health Tips - Normal red cells

Unfortunately, the sickle shaped red cells are very fragile, and they have a hard time passing through all the tiny capillaries in the body. A lot of them end up being destroyed very quickly ( a type of hemophiliac anemia); in fact, the normal life span of a suckled red cell is only twenty to thirty days, as compared with 120 days for normal health red cells. Also, these abnormally shaped cells occasionally get stuck in the capillaries, blocking blood flow to vital organs. This can result in a painful and potentially life-threatening sickle cell crisis
