Foliate-deficiency anemia develops when you don’t eat enough foliate rich foods or when some disease or disorder interferes with your health body’s ability to absorb and/or utilize foliate. The body keeps only a small amount of foliate in storage in the liver the equivalent of about a four month supply. If you don’t get enough foliate in your diet, your body releases foliate from storage for use by the marrow in the production of new red cells. If your diet runs low inflate for more than a few months, storage foliate will become depleted and the new red cells your stage for foliate deficiency anemia.
