Hello guys, there is story of the legendary Milo of Crouton who lifted a baby ox every day from the day the beast was born. Every day the ox grew bigger. Every day the man grew stronger. Finally the ox was full grown and the man was still able to lift it. The moral of this is that the more you use a muscle or an organ of your body, the stronger it becomes. And this applies no matter how poor one’s physical condition or one’s age: man’s physical condition can always be improved by applying exercise in gradually increasing amounts but the increase must be very gradual and without introducing strain in any way, especially when one is getting on in age. The important thing about exercise is that it must be done on a regular basis. One should start by doing a little and slowly build up. If vigorous exercise is done in fits and starts and not on a regular basis, it may do more harm than good. Some people might think that checking a pulse-rate is complicated and confusing. But it is not so. One can easily learn how to check a pulse in five minutes. Many doctors, of course, are very much against this method of exercising as thy do not think that laymen are in a position to check their pulse-rate.
